About the Museum
In the Beginning:
The original mission and purpose of The Galveston Center for Transportation and Commerce was to depict the history of transportation in our State and especially in our community. Primarily this mission was the assembly of the largest collection of railroad artifacts and memorabilia (railroadiana), and what is still the largest and finest collection of railroad rolling stock in the southwestern United States.
The Growing Years:
In our 30 years of service to this community, never has the original mission and purpose of our organization been more necessary nor more timely.
We, herein introduce you to the Galveston Center for Transportation and Commerce, d.b.a. The Galveston Island Railroad Museum and Terminal.
Mission and Purpose of this organization:
"A non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration, observation, and re-use of its historic facilities and equipment for the development of educational and interactive programs, which support railroading and transportation initiatives serving our regional communities."
