Rust, rust and more rust...... pg. 23
There is no sound from the Southern Pacific #1303, no voices, no laughter..... or people asking for a picture with it's Engineer or
Brakeman, there are no sights of people taking pictures of the rolling stock...................only emptiness and rust.......LOTS
of rust.
The definition of rust is as follows:
Rust is a general term for a series of iron oxides, formed by the reaction of iron and
oxygen in the presence of water or air moisture. Given sufficient time, oxygen and water, any iron mass eventually converts entirely
to rust and disintegrates. If salt is present, for example from flood waters caused by Hurricane Ike, the metal rusts more quickly.
Thus, our treasured rolling stock is quickly disintegrating.......
but we are working just as quickly to restore and reopen
the Museum!
The Southern Pacific #1303 has locked up tight from the flood waters of Hurricane Ike, therefore will not budge an inch........
