NP box car #28975 is a 40-foot car with a steel underframe, wood sides
and steel ends. It is inside sheathed and the heavy, Z-shaped steel braces (Z bars) are
exposed. The doors slide open and the openings are 6' high and 9' 10" wide. This is one
of 1000 in its class. #28975 may have been acquired from another railroad and integrated
into the NP roster. It is not listed in the 1943 ORER, but is in the 1953 ORER. In fact,
the 1943 ORER lists no single wood sheathed, steel underframe box cars having the
dimensions of this car on the NP roster.
This car is permanently placed next to the parking lot and serves
as a storage car for the Museum.
